Epinions The best hard drive for your hard earned money.

by  lavoisier,  Dec 3, 2001
Pros: Affordable, extra large capacity, ideal for home use.
Cons: Too small for certain professionals.
The Bottom Line: If you plan to purchase a large, yet affordable hard drive. Look no further, with the Western Digital Caviar 40GB @ 7200rpm ATA/100. It's worth every penny.
Review: Overview

About 3 months ago, when I decided to build my own computer for entertainment (DVD movies and MP3 music, in addition to the Internet), I feel that a 20GB hard drive wasn’t really going to cut it and it wouldn’t be enough for...

Pros: Affordable, Reliable, Fast

Epinions Fast, Stable, a little loud.

by  xaminmo,  Nov 1, 2004
Pros: Fast, reliable.
Cons: 7200rpm = warm and noisy.
Review: I acquired a used WD400BB from a friend. I hooked it up through an external USB-to-ATA interface. ext2fs long format with pattern testing as well as NTFS long format both worked without a single error. I know that 7200RPM drives generally run hot and ...

Pros: Quiet, good performance, easy to use.
Cons: Gets a little hot, jumper settings.
The Bottom Line: For my purposes the drive is very good. It is quiet and reasonably fast. As for reliability, only time will tell.
Review: I was searching for the easiest and cheapest way to be able to transfer large amount of data (about 25 to 35 Gb) back and fourth between two computers. I realized it was going to be easiest to get a hard drive. I found that a WD 400BB drive is being ...

Epinions Put your life... Someplace else.

by  powercntrl,  Dec 24, 2001
Pros: Competitively priced, easy to install, readily available at many electronics retailers.
Cons: Unreliable.
The Bottom Line: Unless you enjoy living dangerously with your data, avoid this drive.
Review: You may think I have a personal vendetta against Western Digital; however, I do not. I own several of their drives, including a 20GB 7200 RPM drive that I have run nonstop in my Linux server for over a year since I bought it. I always recommended...
